Despite the fact that this unit isn’t considered to be a new appliance (the Cuisinart 5 in 1 grill GR-4N, for example, is actually newer and has many other features compared to the GR3 model), it does have removable nonstick cooking plates that basically became commonplace among many electric grills and griddles nowadays.
Unlike other units of the same brand (like the GR4 griddler and the newer GR-4N design), the Cuisinart GR3 junior cannot be used as an electric griddle since it doesn’t have a flat surface, only ridged grill plates. Therefore, if you are looking for an appliance that can be used for cooking fast pancakes, this one may not be the smartest choice (it may be possible to cook pancakes with this item, but the pancakes aren’t going to be entirely flat and will probably have sear marks as well).
As its name suggests, the interesting Cuisinart GR-3 Jr 3-in-1 countertop grill is a versatile 3 in 1 appliance – it can be used as a contact grill, Panini press and as an open grill (and not an open griddle). The grilling plates of the product are both removable and nonstick at the same time. Thus, it should be much easier to clean it compared to other countertop grills that have fixed plates (like the older George Foreman grills for example).
It’s generally not recommended to put your nonstick cookware in the dishwasher, even if it’s dishwasher safe, and the nonstick grill plates of the Cuisinart® griddler™ Jr. griddler are no exception. You should wash the cooking plates by hand in order to preserve the nonstick coating and prolong the life of the unit.
Although there is only one knob that controls the temperature of the GR-3 design, it’s fairly easy to set the temperatures and allow the unit to heat up.
How Well Does The Cuisinart Griddler Jr 3-in-1 Work?
Apparently, the unit actually cooks the food quite good, and unlike some other poor electric griddles/grills doesn’t have a problem with the heating mechanism. Moreover, the item also has a floating lid that adjusts to the right thickness of food (whether it’s a grilled sandwich, a burger or other dishes).
On the other hand, one drawback that this Cuisinart junior machine has is the annoying drip cup. The unit comes with a cleaning tool and a drip cup that you have to place under the appliance in order to catch the grease and other drippings.
Unfortunately, the drip cup alone isn’t always enough, especially if you decide to cook something fat that generates a lot of grease. In this case, you may have to clean the mess on the counter.
However, the Cuisinart GR3 griddler doesn’t cost as much as other expensive countertop grills like the popular Cuisinart GR-4N 5 in 1 model, and it’s possible to cook lots of tasty dishes with the removable nonstick grilling plates of the unit.
